Our History
Jimmy and Tracy Barnhart started Barnhart’s Lawn & Garden, LLC in October 2013. As the business grew, we needed to find a larger space for our store. We purchased C&O Bicycle in Hancock, MD in November 2015 and moved Barnhart’s Lawn & Garden into the same building as the bike shop in March 2016. Both businesses are now happily operating under one roof at 9 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in Hancock!
Married in 2007 Jimmy and Tracy Barnhart live on a farm in Buck Valley, PA, with a small herd of Black Angus cows, two dogs (Hercules and Leroy) and three cats (Bugsy, Tater, and Maddie). Leroy is the official shop dog for both Barnhart’s Lawn & Garden and C&O Bicycle, and Hercules makes occasional appearances as well.
Jimmy was born and raised in Fulton County, PA and has lived in Warfordsburg, PA for over 50 years. He has three grown children (Alexandra, Christian, and Elijah). Jimmy has an Electronics Technician degree from Devry Institute of Technology in Columbus, OH. He previously worked in the asphalt industry for 30 years before starting Barnhart’s Lawn & Garden in October 2013. Jimmy has also been a small engine mechanic for most of his life, working on chainsaws in his father’s (Tink Barnhart’s) general store in Warfordsburg. Jimmy currently serves on the board for the Hancock Chamber of Commerce and is also a Rotarian and a Mason. He’s a farmer at heart, though, and in his limited spare time he raises Black Angus cows in addition to growing hay and corn.
Tracy was born and raised in Johnstown, PA and has also lived in Gaithersburg, MD and Frederick, MD. She holds a B.S. degree in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh and has been employed full-time at AASHTO re:source (formerly AMRL) in Frederick, MD since 1990. Tracy is the Quality Manager at AASHTO re:source, and floats between Barnhart’s Lawn & Garden and C&O Bicycle on the weekends. Tracy is very active in her church (Hancock United Methodist Church), where she is the lead singer in the Praise Band, a member of the Administrative Board, and serves on several committees including the Community Relations Team. In her spare time, Tracy enjoys traveling, hiking, and baking.
